Skiing with kids

Family ski trips

We spent our days skiing on the slopes of Le Grand-Bornand, which were just a short distance from our apartment. The town itself was charming with plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. In the evenings, we enjoyed relaxing in the spa facilities and soaking in the hot tub while admiring the stunning views of the mountains. The peace and tranquillity of the surroundings were truly rejuvenating.

We hired a private transfer from Geneva including car seats. It was around an hour from the airport to our apartment and it cost around £476 with a return journey. Personally with 4 small children this was definitely worth the money.

We stayed at the CHALETS DE JOY – Appartements it was roughly a 5/10 minute walk up the mountain but totally worth it for the spectacular views. The facilities were perfect for a family. We had large spacious bedrooms with a large living area, two bathrooms a balcony overlooking the mountains and a fully fitted kitchen.

We were able to order fresh bread and pastries that we could collect every morning. There were laundry facilities on site (you could buy tokens at reception for these) the pool and spa facilities were perfect after a day on the slopes. There was also a car park below so ideal if you are driving over.

We booked the boys ski lessons with ESF. I would recommend you book these before you go as a lot of the time slots go pretty quick, if you do wait its really easy to book with them when you arrive.

We hired all of our ski equipment when we got there. We got our ski gear from Location De Skis which was located right by our ski lift ( La Joyere) the equipment was around £40 per day for skis, ski boots and helmets for all 3 boys. The staff were amazing and fitted them, they were super helpful and friendly.

The village has a variety of restaurants offering delicious food, as well as cosy cafes to relax and enjoy a hot drink. There are plenty of shops selling unique gift/souvenirs to take home; it also had a Christmas market with local artisans selling their handmade crafts. Overall, the village is a great place to explore with the family. They had traditional rides, Father Christmas, a small sand play area and NYE fireworks.

I loved shopping for the boys ski wear, I got their suits from WeeDo funwear and accessories from Manbi. They have an amazing selection of high quality ski wear and accessories. The suits were fantastic, the attention to detail made them perfect, from clips to keep their gloves attached, a zip in the sleeve for their ski passes, elastic in the hood so it stayed on over their helmets and the list goes on. Most importantly the boys played, skied and rolled in the snow and the boys were dry and warm the whole time while they looked adorable and we definitely couldn’t miss them on the slopes.
